People with dysarthria have motor disorders that often prevent them from efficiently using commercial speech recognition systems. In this project, we train a speech recognition system on dysarthric speech using a Listen-Attend-Spell model, which uses a pyramidal bidirectional LSTM and a beam search decoder to predict phonetic transcriptions.

There are several different types of dysarthria. PEDIATRIC DYSARTHRIA Pediatric Dysarthria is a motor speech sound disorder resulting from neuromuscular weakness, paralysis or incoordination of the muscles needed to produce speech. The child’s speech may be slurred or distorted and the speech may range in intelligibility, based on the extent of neurological weakness. of dysarthria did appear to influence recognition of target stim-uli.

Individuals with dysarthric speech generally find it difficult to communicate with unfamiliar communication partners and are often not understood by automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems. The speech of individuals with dysarthria is highly variable—speech may be slurred; have nasal, strained, or hoarse vocal quality; and vary in tempo, rhythm, or volume of speech production. 2) Slows down speech When the speaker must point to the first letter of each word, they naturally speak slower. This rate reduction makes the dysarthric speech easier to understand by marking the word boundaries and giving the listener more time to process the sounds.

The detection of dysarthria is done using a CNN based segment while reconstruction of original Mel-Spectrogram is done by combining processed audio-signal and text input together into a latent space called ‘Dysarthric Space’.

Injury or disease to the speech musculature may also cause dysarthric like symptoms. When the part of the brain that controls speech production is damaged, the link from the brain to the muscles of speech is affected.

Hypernasality (inappropriate air leakage into the nose during speech) is often noted in children with a dysarthric speech pattern. It happens when you can’t coordinate or control the muscles used for speech production in your face, mouth, or respiratory system. Dysarthria is a motor-speech disorder that results in unclear speech.
